Choose Veneers for a Beautiful Smile
If you’ve ever found yourself feeling self-conscious about your smile due to a chipped or stained tooth or even a gap between your teeth, there’s an easy solution available from your dentist: veneers! Ready to learn more?
What are Veneers?
Veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells, usually made of porcelain, that cover the fronts of your teeth. They are custom-designed for each and every tooth, allowing small, cosmetic problems to be covered and corrected to create a natural-looking, beautiful smile.
Are Veneers Long-Lasting?
They usually last anywhere from 10 to 20 years, and ones that are well-designed and expertly placed can last a lifetime. While they can experience cracks or chips, just like natural teeth, you can expect years worth of durability with good dental hygiene.
What’s the Process for Placing Veneers?
Veneers typically require a four-step process.
- First, you’ll meet with your dentist to ensure you’re a good candidate for them. During this appointment, you’ll likely have x-rays and/or impressions (molds of your teeth) made to jumpstart the process of creating your custom veneers.
- The next step is for your dentist to prepare your teeth for placement by removing a half-millimeter layer of your tooth enamel. More models of your teeth may be made to ensure your veneers are perfectly created for your teeth.
- The third step is to apply them, through a process called bonding. They will be placed, trimmed and cemented to your teeth.
- Lastly, you’ll have a follow-up appointment in a week or two to ensure they were properly applied and that your teeth and gums are doing well.
Are Veneers Just for Looks?
If the surfaces of your teeth have problems, then veneers can help prevent further deterioration and cavities in addition to improving your smile. Dental hygiene is still very important, because teeth with veneers can still experience cavities, but overall, they can help improve your dental health.
