When you’ve lost a tooth or multiple teeth, there are several options available.
Thankfully, people with dental damage can have their smile and oral health restored quite easily. There are three basic ways to replace a missing tooth or teeth, including a fixed dental bridge, dentures, and dental implants.
- A bridge requires placing crowns on the two adjacent teeth. Thus, three teeth are involved instead of one. If there is ever a problem with any one of those teeth, usually the entire bridge needs to be replaced.
- A single dental implant is completely separate from any adjacent teeth and is treated separately.
- A dental implant helps preserve the bone. Otherwise, the bone where you have the missing tooth will shrink over the years. A dental implant can easily be made to look like it is growing out of the gum, so that it looks completely natural.
Dentures are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth and are supported by surrounding soft and hard tissues in the mouth. Conventional dentures are removable; however, there are many different denture options that may include implants and bridges. Conventional dentures are not as stable as fixed dentures.
